Polar Plunge Sets Records

You missed one cool party if you weren't at the Versailles State Park reservoir on Saturday, February 22nd.

Brave souls got wet in the icy cold water to raise money for the 2014 Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics Indiana.

While the air temperature outside Saturday was around 60 degrees, a layer of ice still covered the reservoir. Dearborn County Water Rescue spent over an hour cutting out a 9-inch thick chunk of ice before plunge participants could begin running into the water shrieking and splashing.

This year's Polar Plunge was a record breaker. 188 people plunged and 66 participated in the Polar Climb 5K Run/3K Walk. New this year was the Pee Wee Plunge for children 11 years of age and younger, which had 6 participants raising $250. The preliminary fundraising total was a record $51,700, approximately $4,000 more than was raised the previous year.

"All proceeds from this event benefit Special Olympics athletes in out community, giving them the means to train locally and to compete at the state and national level in a number of Olympic-type sports," said Delegation Coordinator, Greg Townsend.

Summer Games

Summer Games at Indiana State University is scheduled for June, 6th, 7th, & 8th. To be eligible to compete at Summer Games, you MUST participate in Spring Games.
